 I'm a Coffee Fool!

It all started when I decided to drink dark and bitter. I soon realized that only coffee from the best coffee shops can be consumed that way without stinking.

Then in the microwave bug Karl Lattimer pointed out the humorous Coffee Making Howto, which then led to me finding and carefully reading the Coffee FAQ. And soon after I hit the Coffee Fool page that accurately describes my syndrome.

Since then coffee has become one of my main interests. At this time I'm still experimenting and trying to find out which machine suits me best.

I would recommend one of the following coffee pots:
http://www.bialettishop.com/MukkaMain.htm
http://www.bialettishop.com/MokaExpressMain.htm

The first selection has a weight on the stem from which the coffee brews. Add milk to the reservoir, and the weight creates such pressure on the brewing coffee that it will steam and froth the milk.

You may be happy to know (if you don't already) that there as some places for excellent, freshly roasted coffee in Toronto. My personal favorites are:

1) The Moonbean (http://www.moonbeancoffee.com/) - This is in Kensington Market, on St Andrew St. A lot of people seem not to like it and I think part of that is that the brewed coffees and espresso drinks they serve in store are fairly bad. Their beans, however, are great and are freshly roasted in house on a regular basis. Try their Mexico for a great, smooth cup of coffee or their Tanzanian Peaberry for something a little different. Their decaf Sumatra is also incredibly good.

2) The Coffee Tree (http://www.coffeetree.ca/) - This is in Bloor West village, at Bloor and Jane. I haven't been there in a while, but they used to roast to order for no additional cost! You tell them the amount, the bean and the roast level and they'd make it for you.

3) Ideal Coffee (http://www.idealcoffees.com/) - Also in Kensington Market, on Nassau Street (I think) just west of Augusta. They make good espresso and some very tasty blends, but that is all they do, blends. No single-origin roasts.

I've heard of some others, but those are the ones I know and have been to.

Also, french press is my favorite in terms of taste. It really beats drip coffee makers hands down. It used to be that they were incredibly expensive (>$60) but they've become reasonably priced these days.

Cheers,
Marcus

Thanks Marcus! That's a lot of valuable information.

I'd actually recommend a vacuum Coffeemaker. Bodum has one thats Electric, "Bodum Santos"
also available the classic stove version

Though, they are a bit more expensive, but they make a helluva lot nicer coffee than the French Press does ( my own opinion once more) But, on that side, as long as you avoid the drip-brewers...

I would suggest to try out as much as you can! I personally love the Bodum Santos, but also french presses and of course the aerobie aeropress (which is a mad looking, but great coffee maker). In the end, all tools make coffee.
And don't even start to look into espresso or your money will be gone in no time ;)

But even more important than the tools is a) fresh roasted high quality coffee and b) a good (read: really good) grinder. the tools are only c), because with a) and b) you're able to make the best coffee with just a mug and hot water! :)

I think Canada has a nice coffee scene ... let it infect you ;)

I live on coffee :) For me a French Press/Bodum is good enough, although i'm saving up to buy a espresso machine. And i must admit if i just want a quick cup i mostly use my senseo.

A site that i like to read about coffee is http://www.coffeegeek.com. They have quite some reviews about coffee makers, might be helpfull in making a choice.

Also thanks for the link to coffee fool, if it's not too expensive to ship; i might be ordering some coffee there. :)

While we are at it, take a look at home-barista.com, coffeed.com, toomuchcoffee.com and other great coffee-sites :)

I'm coffee crazy! I have my unique coffee mug! I have my unique coffee recipe!
